Claims Apps are a new and exciting introduction to the Insurance market. This has only been possible by the consumer adoption of new smartphones such as the iPhone.
So, how can an insurance app help the Brand and the consumer? Well to truly understand this it's necessary to first look at what a claims app could provide to the Insurer.
By providing each and every policy holder the ability to start a claim at the side of the road (for example) a claims app, puts real control and speed into the hands of their customers.
In a number of circumstances he (or she) who claims first; takes priority and control through the claims process. This can have major cost ramifications for the insurer and it's liabilities for the accident. They won't control the supply chain and therefore are at the relative mercy of another insurers costs.
In addition, if you automate the process and can manage your supply chain well - then it's possible to remove human (and therefore costs) from the claims process too.
So, from an insurers point of view their are some strong Operational efficiency reasons why a claims app should form part of their service offering.
The Marketeers in an Insurer should also view a claims app as an excellent way for them to be actively present in their customers pocket. Brands spend millions of pounds annually reinforcing their messages and position. What better way to do this than actually being made available at the point of policy sale?
The consumers and customers benefit by having access to a tool such as a claims app on their phone (which is 99% likely to be with them) if they are unfortunate to have an accident. Claims app on smartphones like the iPhone can take advantage of features such as the camera (for damage evidence), location (using GPS & Google maps), email (for exchanging driver details) and lastly internet access for launching the claims process.
In summary, there is an excellent opportunity for the Insurance market to (a) streamline it's own processes and (b) provide customers with a valuable and useful claims app for when they most need it.
